In response to the urgent need for skilled healthcare providers and the ongoing challenges in healthcare recruitment and retention, Primary Health Network (PHN) has announced the launch of its Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Residency Program. This innovative initiative aims to tackle the critical shortage of primary care providers while enhancing health outcomes in underserved communities.
The CRNP Residency Program is designed to immerse newly licensed CRNPs in the mission-driven environment of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). This approach not only addresses the pressing need for qualified primary care providers but also fosters a commitment to community health.
Dr. Angela Hogue, Chief Medical Officer at PHN, stated, “By establishing this residency program, our goal is to deeply integrate our residents into the ethos of community health. We believe that an immersive and supportive learning environment will help cultivate healthcare professionals who are both skilled and dedicated to improving the well-being of the communities we serve.”
Program Structure and Focus
Scheduled to run from September 2025 to August 2026, the CRNP Residency Program will accept two residents annually. The one-year, salaried residency encompasses a comprehensive training framework, which includes:

- 20% Mentored Clinics: Focus on acute care with supervision.
- 20% Didactic Education: Classroom learning to reinforce clinical competencies.
Residents will also participate in Project ECHO, engaging in case-based learning with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, enhancing their preparation for the complexities of modern healthcare.
Competitive Compensation and Benefits
Compensation during the residency is competitive, with a substantial salary increase following completion of the program. Residents will receive comprehensive benefits, including:
- Medical, dental, and life insurance
- Disability coverage

These offerings are designed to support residents throughout their training and professional development.
