As we welcome in March, it’s time to turn our attention to Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Awareness Month. This annual observance serves as a vital reminder of the importance of early detection and screening for colorectal cancer, which stands as the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States.
Our Commitment to Fighting Colorectal Cancer:
In February 2023, we received recognition for our dedication to cancer prevention and screening efforts. With the support of the HRSA-funded Accelerating Cancer Screening Grant, we embarked to bolster CRC screening rates and timely follow-up care for positive screenings.
Collaborative Efforts for Colorectal Cancer:
This initiative is a collaborative endeavor, bringing together our dedicated healthcare professionals and strategic partnerships. The involvement of our Registered Nurse (RN) Navigator, working in tandem with our Quality Coordinator, has been instrumental in executing effective workflows and outreach strategies.
Partnering for Progress | UPMC Hillman Cancer Center:
We cannot overstate the significance of partnerships in the fight against cancer. Our alliance with UPMC Hillman Cancer Center underscores a commitment to improving patient outcomes through comprehensive cancer care.
Empowering Patients through Education and Access:
One of the cornerstones of our approach is empowering patients with knowledge and access to screening options. Through targeted outreach, we offer patients at five identified sites a choice of three screening modalities, ensuring personalized care.
Tracking Progress and Celebrating Success:
Since the implementation of this initiative, we have witnessed a notable increase in CRC screening rates, a testament to the effectiveness of proactive outreach and streamlined navigation processes. Moreover, our commitment to ensuring timely follow-up care for positive screenings emphasizes our dedication to comprehensive cancer care.
